Track

The diary

Calories are in there, and so are vitamin D, iodine, omega-3 and the essential amino acids, each with its own target.

The Today screen: energy, protein, carbs and fat against your goals, a fiber challenge, the streak and breakfast
Today

The Today screen

Your energy, protein, carbs and fat against your goals, with your exercise included. Your meals, a running challenge, and your streak right next to the title.

  • "What should I still eat?": foods that fill today's biggest gaps, or the ones with the least sugar or carbs
  • Absorption tips, like vitamin C with plant iron or no coffee with an iron-rich meal
  • A celebration at every streak milestone: 7, 30, 100 days and more
The Dashboard for one day: a Nutrient score of 91, balances, how processed the food was and the first nutrient bars
Dashboard

All 69 nutrients, with a score for the day

From vitamin D and iodine to omega-3 and the essential amino acids. Every bar shows your target and turns red above the safe upper limit.

  • A Nutrient Score for your day, week and month
  • The balances experts look at: omega-6 to omega-3, and potassium to salt
  • Tap a nutrient for your history, where it came from and the richest sources
The week view: average Nutrient score, full days logged and energy per day against your goal
Week and month

Patterns instead of single days

One day low in vitamin C is not a problem. The week and month views show what you miss over time.

  • Energy per day against your goal, at a glance
  • A weekly report, and a monthly and yearly recap of your food
  • Share your recap, a streak or your badges as an image
  • Which nutrients you reach day by day
Searching for salmon with results from Danish, French and British food tables
Logging

Four ways to log

Search, scan a barcode, snap a photo of your plate or just say it: "two eggs and a slice of bread". Every result shows what it adds to today's gaps.

  • Photo logging: AI describes what is on your plate. It can get things wrong, so you check it before anything is added. 3 photos a day are free.
  • Favourites at the top, "same as yesterday" in one tap, or copy a whole day to any other day
  • Suggestions for what you usually eat at this time of day
  • Recipes, saved meals and daily supplements
Scan

Scan a product before you buy it

Scan a product in the shop and see in seconds whether it is a good choice for you.

Scan result for Frosties: score 45 out of 100, Nutri-Score D, ultra-processed, brand from the EU
A product score from 0 to 100

Based on the Nutri-Score, the additives and whether it is organic.

Every additive with its risk

From no known risk to high risk, based on EFSA assessments. Tap one for a plain explanation.

Your allergies

A clear warning when a product contains something you react to, like peanuts.

Made in the EU or the US?

Where it was made, where the ingredients come from, or at least where the brand is based.

Better choices

A low score? You get two or three similar products that score better, like whole-grain flakes instead of frosted cereal.

Unknown barcode? Scan the label

Take a photo of the nutrition table and AI fills in the values. Check them, because it can misread a blurry label. Then, if you like, share the product with Open Food Facts so the next person finds it. 1 label a day is free.

Works without internet

Products you scanned before still show up when the shop has no signal.

Better choices for Frosties: whole-grain breakfast cereals and a granola that each score 90

Filled in, carefully. If a value is missing in one database, we take it from the same food in the others, adjusted for its water and fat content and for cooking losses. Such an estimate gets a ≈ and you always see where it came from. Hundreds of errors in the source tables have been checked and corrected.

Branded products with micronutrients. A label rarely lists vitamins. If a branded product is linked to a basic food, we fill in the missing values from it.

EFSA reference values for healthy adults, with the safe upper limit. Essential amino acids according to the WHO. This is not medical advice.

Privacy

What happens to your data

What you eat and weigh is personal. No ads, no tracking, and your data is never sold or used for anything other than running the app.

Stored in the EU

Your account and data are on servers in Ireland. The emails with your code are sent by a European service.

Only you see your diary

Friends only see your name, level, badges and weekly score. Nobody else can access your data.

No ads, no tracking

No advertising, no tracking cookies and no analytics, on the website or in the app. We never sell or rent out your data.

Photos are not stored
Meal and label photos are read by AI on our server and then thrown away, unless you choose to share a label with Open Food Facts. We only keep a count of how many you used that day, for a week at most.
Delete at any time
One button in the settings deletes your account and all your data for good. Backups are gone within 30 days.
Open source

All of the app's code is public under the AGPL licence. You don't have to take our word for any of the above: you can read what the app does with your data.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the app free?

Yes, nearly everything is free and there is no paywall. An account is free too, and optional. Supporter is an optional subscription (€2.99 a month or €19.99 a year) with a few extras like avatar frames, colours and more AI scans per day. It helps pay for the AI and the servers. It is coming soon through Google Play.

Are there ads? Do you sell my data?

No and no. There are no ads, no tracking cookies and no analytics. Your data is stored in the EU and is never sold or used for anything other than running the app. See the privacy policy.

Is MacroMatrix open source?

Yes. The code is public under the AGPL licence on GitHub.

Can I use it without an account?

Yes. Choose "Use without an account" on the start screen. Everything then stays on your device only, without sync, friends or battles. You can create an account later; your data comes along.

What do my friends see?

Your chosen name, your avatar or photo, your level, title and showcase badges, and your average Nutrient Score per week. In a battle they also see your points for that week. Never your diary, your weight or your email address.

How do battles work?

You challenge a friend for a week. Every day you log, your Nutrient Score for that day adds to your points. Whoever has the most points on Sunday wins. Wins count towards your battle badges and your rivalry record with that friend.

How is the product score calculated?

60% comes from the Nutri-Score, 30% from the additives (based on EFSA assessments) and 10% from whether the product is organic. A product with a high-risk additive scores 49 at most.

Which devices does it work on?

In any modern browser, on your computer and on your phone. The Android app (barcode scanner, widget, Health Connect) can be downloaded from GitHub; the Play Store is coming soon.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. After you log in, everything is also stored on your device, including products you scanned before. What you log offline goes to your account once you are back online.

How accurate are the nutrition values?

Basic foods come from official food composition tables. Branded products come from Open Food Facts, which is filled in by its users, and USDA; check the label if in doubt. Estimated values are always marked with ≈.

Is this medical advice?

No. The targets are general EFSA reference values for healthy adults. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a medical condition, talk to your doctor or dietitian.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account, or see this page. Your account and all your data are deleted right away.

How do I contact you?

Email [email protected] for help, or [email protected] for questions about your data.

Try it for a week

Log what you eat for seven days. By then you'll see which nutrients you keep missing. It costs nothing, and you can delete everything with one button.
